Hours before top DFO brass were to be questioned Tuesday on alleged mismanagement of the elver fishery, federal Fisheries Minister Diane Lebouthillier announced she doesn’t intend to open the fishery at all in 2024.
“I am writing to inform you of my intention not to renew any elver licences for the 2024 season, including the licence referred to above,” reads a copy of the letter sent by Lebouthillier to commercial licence holders on Tuesday morning.
